Dear Anne, It was a nice meeting with you in Essen. After I came back to Japan on September 21st, I was constipated, had a right lower abdominal pain and underwent an operation on my abdomen for appendicitis. I've gotten my health back now.
I write below what I heard from you and Ms. M. Hennings in Essen for confirmation. If you find any error or have any addition, please let me know the facts. (1) There are 2300 sarcoidosis patients and 62 patients' associations in Germany. (2) There are 50 sardoidosis patients' associations in the US and 97% of the members had suffered from some stresses which consisted mainly of bad family, occupational or some other statuses.
I am much interested in health disorders which are caused by stress. It is fairly known that stress causes and exacerbates some kinds of cancers or collagen diseases and the diseases are called stress-related disorders as a whole. I think sarcoidosis is one of the stress-related disorders and I have presented this opinion at the conferences of sarcoidosis in Japan. I advise the patients with sarcoidosis to relax themselves and interpret many events which had occurred around them favorably to encourage them in the hospital and in my lecture at the patients' association. Would you please let me know further information about the characteristics of the fellow members and their stresses in detail? I hope your condition will get better with all my heart.
Best regards,
Tetsuo Yamaguchi, MD PhD
